The number of cashless transactions doubled on the Gourmet festival

Budapest, May 20, 2016 – The total money spent by customers and the average amounts deposited onto festival cards rise year by year on the Gourmet festival; this year, it was a 25% rise based on data released by Festipay. Numbers indicate that the number of contactless bank card users on the gastro festival has doubled since 2015, which shows how dynamically cashless payment’s popularity is growing in Hungary.

On this year’s Gourmet festival, 14 thousand registered visitors made more than 50 000 transactions in total.

“Cashless payment is a very popular concept especially on festivals, and Hungary is a leader in that market – this year, 18 festivals in Hungary and abroad use Festipay’s solutions, which means there are twice as many cashless festivals working with Festipay system than in 2015. Based on spending patterns on the 2016 Gourmet festival, we can see a dynamic improvement in contactless bank card use. Festipay’s cashless solutions serve a niche market at the moment, we are working on creating a wider range of opportunities to use our cashless payment system.”, said László Márki, CEO of Festipay.

This year’s festival season’s first event, Rosalia festival attracted approximately 30 thousand people who made 60 000 transactions. Half of the attendees used Festipay’s festival card and half of them used their contactless bank card. Bank card users spent 10% more on average.

For those who do not own a contactless bank card or do not wish to use their bank card in a festival environment, we created Festipay’s smartphone application, which makes the festival experience even more comfortable: not only you can keep track of your transactions and current balance, but now it’s possible to register your bank card and top-up your festival card fast and efficiently. Application available to download for iOS and Android devices.
